In this first module, we begin by considering what we mean when we talk about “enterprise viability” and “right livelihood” as well as the tensions that exist between them. We’ll also hear from an organization striving to balance both in their work with agroecological farmers in Puerto Rico. We’ll have time to reflect on what enterprise viability and right livelihood look like for us, and see if we can identify other organizations that share these same values.

Learning Objectives

In this module, learners will:

  1. Define the concept of ‘right livelihoods’ in the context of agricultural businesses.
  2. Identify examples of organizations striving to balance successful agroecological businesses with good, fulfilling lives.
